PART 2. Let’s talk about Russian National Clothes.


Russian national costumes are not only beautiful, they are also convenient (удобны) in wearing because they were created (созданы) for work without (без) restricting freedom of movement (ограничения свободы и движения).

The Russian word "beautiful" comes from the word "krasny", the Russian for "red". That’s why there are a lot of red elements in the Russian national costume.


Woman’s clothes
headdress "kokoshnik" – головной убор кокошник
linen shirts – льняные рубашки
woman's dress "sarafan"(sundress) – женское платье сарафан
flowered head wreath with ribbons – головной венок, украшенный цветами и лентами

Man’s clothes
"kosovorotka" (white, blue or red) is a man’s shirt with long sleeves with several buttons at the collar – косоворотка, мужская рубашка с длинными рукавами и несколькими пуговицами на воротнике
“kartuz” man’s headwear – картуз – мужской головной убор.
